The Denver Art Museum collections include American Indian art, pre-Columbian and Spanish Colonial art, as well as sculptures, paintings and other art works from around the world. The Denver Art Museum is housed in a 28-sided, two-towered, seven-story building designed by Italian architect Gio Ponti, who covered the Denver Art Museum exterior with more than one million faceted, shimmering gray tiles specially designed by Dow Corning. The new Denver Art Museum addition, a geometric glass and titanium design by Daniel Libeskind, will be an internationally significant work of architecture, making the Denver Art Museum a signature landmark for the city of Denver. This addition will nearly double the size of the Denver Art Museum, and is scheduled for completion in 2006. The Denver Art Museum is in the city Cultural Complex. Exit I-25 at Colfax Avenue and drive east to its intersection with Acoma Street. The Cultural Complex Garage, two blocks south and two blocks west of the Denver Art Museum, is the most convenient place to park. Enter from 12th Avenue, just west of Broadway. There are also unattended parking lots and metered parking spaces within walking distance of the Denver Art Museum. There is a permanent exhibition which is free and temporary exhibitions for which you have to pay.Since March 18th to August 23rd, you can see a beautiful(temporary) exhibition on the Swiss (and genevois) painter Alexandre Perrier, who painted mostly néo-impressionist landscapes at the end of the XIXth century, beginning of the XXth. The exhibition will propose to make you see his evolution through his whole carear, thanks to the participation of the Kunstmuseum of Soleure, which gave a few of his masterpieces for the occasion. The admirers of art history will love to see the celebrated 15th century altarpiece by Konrad Witz, “The Miraculous Draught of Fish” and original stained glass windows, all formerly installed in Saint Peter’s Cathedral. It is quite impressive! The restaurant of the Museum, Le Barocco, serves sophisticated dishes. But you can just have a cup of coffee on the terrace in the inner courtyard. If you decide to go there on Tuesdays from 09:00 am to 15:00, the first-year art history students have their introduction classes in the basement.

Fine Arts

Fine art photography tips are not difficult to learn if you are a very attentive student way back in your college courses. Even the tram ride is an efficient, clean and scenic experience. It takes only a few minutes for the tram to shuttle visitors to the Getty Center, a private art museum and architectural wonder housing John Paul Getty’s collection and works added since his death. Parking is the only required expense ($15 per vehicle), as all visitors may access the collections for free.

Guggenheim Museum

World-famous architect Philip Johnson called the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao "the greatest building of our time." Cowan, who represented Sophia Loren in 1962 when she was included in the museum in a scene from "Two Women."Kline recalled that Parkinson flew to Loren's villa in Italy, where the actress presented him with the dress she had worn in the film, for which she won an Oscar."Whenever he did anything, he always met with the people," said Kline.

<img alt="http://www.have-fun-in-the-southwest.com/images/TussaudsSparrow.gif" src="http://www.have-fun-in-the-southwest.com/images/TussaudsSparrow.gif" style="height: 499px; Founded in 1977, the Museum was conceived as a center for exhibitions, information, and documentation about living artists whose works did not yet have wide public exposure or critical acceptance. It has a unique history of being founded by a curator—Marcia Tucker—who had neither personal resources nor a collection, just abundant resourcefulness and a passion for living culture. At its inception, the Museum lay somewhere between a grassroots alternative space and a major museum devoted to proven historical values. The deliberate paradox was embodied in the name “New Museum” and Tucker’s daring vision and combative idea to present new art in a critical and scholarly context.
The New Museum has evolved over the past thirty plus years, from its humble beginnings as a startup in a one-room office on Hudson Street in 1977, to a gallery space in the New School later that year, to its expansion and relocation to SoHo in 1983, to the inauguration of its first freestanding, dedicated building in 2007. Our culture has also evolved over this period of time and contemporary art is more widely embraced today. The New Museum has an important and influential legacy and role to keep breaking new ground. A site of ongoing experimentation and questioning of what art and institutions can be in the 21st century, the New Museum continues to look to the future through programming that is open, fearless, and alive.

Children's Museum

Today's guest post is by the National Children's Museum. Rockefeller, Jr., along with two other influential arts patrons--- Miss Lillie P. Bliss and Mrs. Cornelius J. Sullivan---found the conservative museums and collections to be lacking. They wanted to offer something more to the community of New York art museums, something inclusive of modern art (which includes any work from the late 19th century to the present), and together founded The Museum of Modern Art New York, a tradition-breaking institution among New York art museums. From its humble beginnings as recipient of eight prints and one drawing, The New York Museum of Modern Art has grown to include over 150,000 paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints, photographs, architectural models and drawings, and design objects. An impressive lineup of modern artists such as Vincent van Gogh, Jackson Pollack, and Andy Warhol are featured here. This world-class museum includes a special emphasis on film media, and owns more than 22,000 films, videos, and media works, as well as film stills, scripts, posters and historical documents. The New York Museum of Modern Art also rotates its expansive collection on a regular basis to ensure as fresh a viewing experience as possible, even for regular museum-goers.

Art Museum

The Worcester Art Museum is world-renowned for its 35,000-piece collection of paintings, sculpture, decorative arts, photography, prints, drawings and new media. In this respect, I think that classics like Thermal Camera and Slow Bubbles (illustrated) are wonderful exhibits. It takes a long time to teach someone something - more time than most visitors spend at a given exhibit or even at a whole science centre. But it's possible to inspire someone in a much shorter time. The effects of that inspirational experience, on that person's attitude to and interest in science, will probably be much deeper and longer-lasting than anything you try to 'teach' them with an exhibit. That's not to say that it's a bad thing if exhibits have a direct educational function, and most if not all of the ideas I describe could be used to convey specific scientific concepts. But for me the first purpose of hands-on exhibits ideas is to astonish, intrigue, and delight.Another plank of my philosophy is: make it real. Don't fake it. If you lead people to believe that something is happening, then it really should be happening.

Museum In Usa

The saga of Donald Fisher's quest to build a museum in the Presidio took quite a turn last week: Park officials said they want the museum to be reduced in size and moved a block from Fisher's desired site, and the Gap founder indicated he's willing to give it a try.But if Fisher and the Presidio Trust really want to shake things up, they'll bury the whole museum underground. Or split it into pieces sprinkled throughout the Presidio's 1,491 acres. Or wrap the whole thing in an invisibility shield. These are among the ideas on display in a playful, provocative exhibition at the 3A Gallery on San Francisco's South Park. Ten of our most creative architectural firms are displaying their own schemes for the Contemporary Art Museum at the Presidio that the Fisher family wants to build and endow.Granted, none of these notions are on the agenda of tonight's meeting of the trust, the federally appointed board that manages the unusual Army base turned national park. But they're a welcome counterpoint to the back-and-forth over how (or if) the Presidio should change.

Gorakhpur Park

The city of Gorakhpur is a wonderful place. So he bequeathed the whole collection to King George II for the nation in return for a payment of £20,000 to his heirs. The gift was accepted and on 7 June 1753, an Act of Parliament established the British Museum. The founding collections largely consisted of books, manuscripts and naturalspecimens with some antiquities (including coins and medals, prints and drawings) and ethnographic material. In 1757 King George II donated the 'Old Royal Library' of the sovereigns of England and with it the privilege of copyright receipt. The British Museum opened to the public on 15 January 1759 . It was first housed in a seventeenth-century mansion, Montagu House, in Bloomsbury on the site of today's building. Entry was free and given to ‘all studious and curious Persons’.With the exception of two World Wars, the Museum has remained open ever since, gradually increasing its opening hours and moving from an attendance of 5,000 per year to today's 6 million.

The British Museum in London is the world's largest museum of human history, culture and art. Its treasures include Egyptian mummies, objects from the Mesopotamian Kingdom of Ur, an Easter Island statue given to the museum by Queen Victoria, objects from the Sutton Hoo burial and (at least for now) the Elgin Marbles that once graced the Parthenon in Greece. For my money the best object of all at the British Museum is the Rosetta Stone - a decree of Ptolemy, one of the last pharaohs, carved in three languages on a polished black stone. The carving is in hieroglyphics, demotic Egyptian script and Greek. It was the Greek inscription that was used to unlock the mystery of the other writing, including the hieroglyphics, and, therefore just about everything now known about ancient Egypt. A wonder indeed!

Science Museum

The Science Museum of Western Virginia is the oldest science museum in Virginia, founded in 1970 by a group of teachers and community volunteers to provide informal science experiences to enhance education in the classroom. While the organization has grown and moved into larger and more accessible facilities, it has never strayed from its mission focus. The Museum moved into its current home on two floors of a multi-cultural building in the heart of downtown Roanoke called Center in the Square in 1983. That move led to the fabrication of all new galleries and transformed the Museum from a small “home-grown” collecting Museum to a larger institution with a planetarium and a wide selection of interactive exhibits. Another major renovation occurred in 1995, as the Museum celebrated its 25th anniversary. The undertaking, announced in November 2006, has a goal not only to update the aging facility but to also establish a new national model for other mid-sized science centers.

Natural Museum

The main hall of the Natural History Museum soars less dramatically than a Gothic nave, but otherwise isn’t unlike one. Light comes from high windows; there are upper galleries and chapel-like alcoves; and it is dominated by a statue in white marble of the local deity – Charles Darwin – who looks down at a huge dinosaur skeleton from the landing of the staircase that rises in a double flight at the north end. Darwin’s ideas are so central to biology that there is no wall of fossils, case of stuffed birds, diagram of genetic inheritance, animated dinosaur, laboratory or educational scheme in the museum that does not draw on, elaborate, or take its meaning from them. The whole building is a Darwin exhibition. That presents problems when you want to do something special to celebrate his 200th birthday. In 1963 we bought a house in Southfields, a few hundred yards from the All England Lawn Tennis Club. Every year since then we have, for a fortnight, had to elbow our way crossly through tides of tennis fans. During those weeks, Wimbledon Park, which lies beyond the wall at the end of our street, is given over to cars. That invasion irritates me as much as the human traffic. The park is shared space, but it is our shared space. I resent the intrusion. It is not grand landscape: it is bordered on one side by the raised track of the District Line, on the other by Wimbledon Park golf course, and is laid out in sports pitches and a running track. But it’s a good place to throw a ball about and does have a lake where, once in a while, I check out the wildfowl.Over the years the population has changed. Canada geese came years ago; now there are also Egyptian geese, and what I think are pink-foot geese. One winter I watched shoveller duck swimming round after each other in a circle. There are fewer tufted duck and mallard than there were.
